Orthodontic Issues Treatable with Invisalign

Invisalign can treat a wide range of misalignment and bite problems, including:

  • Overcrowding and overlapping teeth.
  • Unsightly spaces between teeth.
  • Underbites.
  • Overbites.
  • Crossbites.
  • Open bites.

Previously, Invisalign was suitable for mild to moderate orthodontic cases. Nowadays, it can treat far more complex orthodontic issues, and the system includes modifications such as attachments and precision wings to increase the efficacy of tooth movements.

The technology can be used to create an evenly aligned and more attractive smile, where teeth bite together accurately.

Who Is Likely Suitable for Invisalign?

Below are some of the factors we assess to determine if you are suitable for this treatment.

  1. The orthodontic issues requiring correction.Invisalign is great for most bite problems and misalignments, but sometimes those that are more complex may be less suitable for treatment.
  2. Patient compliance. You must follow the treatment plan closely, wearing the aligners regularly and as directed. If you are likely to forget to wear them, a fixed brace could be a better and more successful solution.
  3. General dental health. Your teeth must be healthy enough to move successfully, so you shouldn’t have any active gum disease or other issues, such as tooth infections or tooth decay.
  4. Existing dental restorations. If you have existing dental restorations, especially dental implants or dental bridges, Invisalign might not be the right approach. However, we may be able to protect these restorations during treatment, so it is always worthwhile to schedule a consultation.
  5. Willingness to wear retainers. Wearing Invisalign aligners is only part of the treatment plan; retainers are also essential. You must be prepared to wear these after completion, initially, all the time, and once or twice a week for the rest of your life.

Age Requirements for Invisalign

Invisalign treatment is extremely versatile, and the company produces systems suitable for all ages, including children, teens, and adults.

We often see people who think they are too old for Invisalign treatment, but there is no upper age limit for this treatment. We are much more interested in your oral health.

Nowadays, we see an increasing number of older patients who may not have had the opportunity for orthodontic treatment before now or who have previously worn braces but have seen their teeth shift with age.

Discovering If Invisalign Is Right for You

An initial consultation and evaluation with our Invisalign dentist will soon determine if you are a suitable candidate for treatment. During this appointment, we evaluate how your teeth bite together and their alignment, identifying any issues that require correction.

Digital Evaluation and Custom Treatment Plan

A digital evaluation of your teeth enables us to provide a custom treatment plan, detailing which Invisalign system will yield the optimal outcome, and, of course, the predicted costs. As part of this evaluation, we can provide virtual images showing how your teeth could look if you decide to proceed.

Discussing Your Treatment Goals

We also discuss your treatment goals and encourage you to ask questions so you can understand how Invisalign works and determine if it could be the right solution for your needs. We want to ensure you understand what’s required during treatment, including the importance of good compliance to achieve optimal results.

Although the aligners are removable, they must be worn for at least 22 hours daily. If you are likely to forget or find it difficult to wear them as required, a fixed brace solution may be the most suitable option. Contact us today to discuss the best orthodontic solution for your teen!
