What Are Invisible Braces?
Invisible braces offer an aesthetically pleasing alternative to more traditional metal braces. They are very discreet, and using them can help enhance self-esteem and self-confidence during orthodontic treatment.
Who Is Suitable for Invisible Braces?
Invisible braces work well for older teens and adults. They may be less suitable for children who still have some of their baby teeth and for individuals with more complex orthodontic issues. In this case, we may recommend traditional metal braces that are strong, durable, and can provide precise tooth movements.
Systems like Invisalign can correct numerous orthodontic issues, including some that are more complex. Invisalign is suitable for teens and adults, but requires excellent compliance. The trays must be worn for at least 20-22 hours daily; therefore, this treatment may be less suitable for individuals who are prone to forgetting to wear their aligners or losing them frequently.
Benefits of Invisible Braces
Benefits of treatment can include:
- The braces or aligners are virtually invisible during treatment.
- Different options are available as they can be fixed or removable, depending on your lifestyle or personal preference.
- Treatment is effective for a wide range of orthodontic cases, including those that are more complicated.
- The materials used for invisible braces are very modern, based on the latest technologies.
- Some invisible braces, like clear aligners, can be more comfortable since there are no brackets or wires to dig into gums or cheeks.
Different Types of Invisible Braces
Various types of invisible braces are available, including:
- Ceramic or clear braces.
- Lingual braces.
- Clear aligners.
Below is a brief overview of these options; for more detailed information, please visit the dedicated webpage for each solution.
Ceramic or Clear Braces
Ceramic or clear braces are fixed to the teeth for the duration of treatment and feature ceramic brackets that can be tooth-colored or clear. Very thin metal or tooth-colored wires are attached to the brackets. Clear or colored elastics or ligatures keep the wires in place. Some clear braces do not require elastics because the brackets are self-ligating.
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces, such as Incognito, are fixed onto teeth for the duration of treatment and have brackets that are custom-made to fit on the inner surfaces of teeth, where they are virtually invisible. Incognito brace brackets are extremely thin, made from gold alloy, and individually contoured for every tooth. Custom-made wires are attached to the brackets.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are removable, consisting of clear, BPA-free plastic aligner trays designed to fit precisely over the teeth. These must be worn almost all the time, except when removed for oral care and meals. Once in the mouth, the aligner trays are virtually invisible.
