What Is Restorative Dentistry?

The primary aim of restorative dentistry is to repair damaged teeth, replace missing or failing ones, and restore your ability to bite and chew food properly, as well as speak clearly.

After completing restorative dentistry, you should have teeth that are strong, durable, the right size and shape, and that look good.

We are fortunate to have a prosthodontist, Dr. Calvin Pae, on our team, who is a dental specialist in restorative dentistry and can provide personalized care using the most advanced technologies and techniques.

Our dental office utilizes the latest materials, which last longer and offer superior aesthetics. If you have been searching online for a restorative dentist near me, NYC Dentistry Center can ensure that you receive the best restoration dentistry tailored to your needs.

Popular Restorative Dentistry Treatments

NYC Dentistry Center provides a comprehensive choice of restorative dental procedures. Our restorative dentistry treatments include:

Dental Crowns

We recommend dental crowns to repair broken teeth or those with large cavities, or following root canal therapy. These restorations are sometimes called caps and fit over the entire tooth

To make a crown, our restorative dentist must reshape your tooth, creating enough room for the crown to fit comfortably and naturally. You require a temporary crown and a second visit for traditional crowns to be made in a dental lab and fitted approximately two weeks later.

Same-day Crowns.

Same-day crowns can be made and fitted on the same day your tooth is prepared for a crown. Our dental office features the latest 3D milling machine on-site, allowing us to create beautiful, precision-made restorations while you wait.

Dental Bridges

These restorations are designed to replace one or more missing teeth that were originally adjacent to each other. Typically, a dental bridge is supported by crowns on the teeth adjacent to the gap. The crowns hold the replacement tooth, called a pontic, between them. However, other types are available, and we can recommend the best solution for your oral health needs.

Full and Partial Dentures

Full and partial dentures are a very traditional way to replace missing teeth. A full denture can restore a complete arch of teeth. A partial denture restores one or more teeth in the same arch. Both full and partial dentures have an acrylic base plate resting directly on your gums, supporting the replacement teeth.

Same-day Dentures

After natural teeth are removed, your gums and jawbone need time to heal. During healing, they change shape, which is why we can provide an immediate denture that can be fitted the same day. You will use this denture during the healing process, and once complete, we will replace it with your more permanent denture.

Denture Repairs

If a denture cracks or breaks, we understand that you want it repaired quickly and are here to help. We offer fast denture repairs, whenever possible, on the same day.

Nesbitt Partials

Nesbitt dentures are a special type of partial denture made from a flexible nylon material. They are aesthetically pleasing, more comfortable to wear, and lightweight.

Dental Fillings

If a tooth develops a cavity, we can provide a suitable filling made from the most suitable and durable material. Usually, this is tooth coloured composite resin, creating a virtually invisible restoration. When a cavity is larger, for example, in a back tooth, we may recommend an inlay or onlay made from porcelain, which is more durable and hard-wearing.

Who Needs Restorative Dentistry?

Most people will need some form of restorative dentistry at some point during their lifetime. Reasons for needing these procedures include:

  • Tooth infection and decay.
  • Worn, broken, or cracked teeth.
  • Older, failing dental restorations.
  • Missing teeth.

The Restorative Dentistry Process Step-By-Step

Several steps are involved, which are outlined briefly below. These steps are only a rough guide, as your oral health concerns are unique and the process is tailored accordingly.

Comprehensive Dental Exam & Consultation

The first step is to see our restorative dentist for a comprehensive dental exam and consultation. The dental exam enables us to evaluate the condition of your teeth and identify any issues that require treatment. We will also discuss your treatment goals so that we can tailor your plan to meet your specific needs.

Digital Imaging & Treatment Plan

Digital imaging is used to assess any teeth that are damaged, infected, or failing, allowing us to plan treatment accurately.

The digital images enable us to provide a customized treatment plan, detailing the recommended procedures and their associated costs. We allow plenty of time to discuss this treatment plan with you, especially when multiple options are available.

We encourage questions; we want you to feel in control of your oral health and make informed decisions about your treatment. Once you have made your choice, we can schedule your treatment.

Receiving Your Treatment

Your treatment will be provided in a comfortable and relaxing dental office. We make sure your treatment is pain-free. Certain procedures, such as dentures, should not require dental anesthesia as no surgery is needed.

Ongoing Maintenance

After completing your restorative dental care plan, we can provide you with extensive information on how to maintain the results for a longer period. This will include oral hygiene advice and information on when to schedule dental checkups and professional dental cleanings.

FAQ

What Is the Difference between Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry?

Restorative dentistry focuses on oral health, while cosmetic dentistry focuses on aesthetics. However, some restorative dental procedures, such as dental crowns and bridges, help protect damaged teeth or replace those that are missing, while also being designed to look natural and beautiful.

Will Dental Insurance Cover the Cost of Restorative Dentistry?

Restorative dentistry is necessary for oral health, so it’s likely your insurance will meet at least part of the cost, especially for partial or full dentures. The percentage covered may depend on the materials chosen for your restoration.
